Training for MoT Testers & Examiners

 

We run a number of MoT courses in convenient locations throughout the UK, or 1-1 at your workshop to keep your downtime to a minimum.


1/2 Day MOT Annual Training & Assessment Course

In 2016 the DVSA introduced the new MOT Annual Training and Assessment which replaced the 5-year refresher course and it is now the Nominated Tester’s responsibility to source their own training and take the assessment each year between April and March for the next 5 years.

The NT must complete a minimum of 3 hours CPD training each year over 5 the year period, with 4 hours completed in one of the years to make up the 16 hours required. Each year the NT must sit and pass the annual assessment.

We offer a classroom based training programme that delivers 3-4 hours training on the DVSA's published syllabus and the includes assessment via ABC Awards.

5 Day MOT Tester Training Programme

This Level 2 course in MOT Testing gives learners the knowledge and skills required to perform MOT tests to the required standard. Once passed, new MOT testers can apply to the DVSA for their Certificate of Competence and begin conducting MOT tests. 

Course duration is 5 days with a minimum of 8 hours practical training.

The Level 2 Award in MOT Testing will teach you:

  • Safe working practices in Testing Centres
  • Working relationships within the Testing Centre
  • How to manage professional development as an MOT tester
  • How to carry out pre-test checks for a statutory periodic roadworthiness test
  • How to carry out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test.

In order to take the Level 2 Award in MOT Testing, learners must have:

  • A Level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification
  • A current and full UK driving licence for the relevant vehicle class
  • At least four years full-time employment in service and repair of the relevant vehicle class

Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management

This qualification is required if you wish to run an MOT Vehicle Test Station and is a recognised qualification by DVSA.

The qualification is primarily developed for learners who wish to run an MOT Vehicle Testing Station, or who will have direct responsibility for MOT operations at the VTS in the future.

2-Day Course give learners the knowledge and skills required to manage MOT Vehicle Test Centres. - 

  • Manage the legislative and compliance knowledge required to manage an MOT Test Centre
  • Effectively encourage improvements in customer service
  • Develop and supervise staff within a Testing Centre
  • Understand the Centre quality systems and audits.
